You were rather surprised when you woke up one morning and found a dragon in your room. It was a small dragon, about the size of a kitten.
The dragon wagged its tail happily when you [[patted its head|pat it]].You went downstairs to tell your parents.
“There’s no such thing as a dragon!” Said Mother. And she said it like she meant it.
You went back to your room and began to dress. The dragon came close to you and wagged its tail.
You decided to
[[pat it|it is here]]
[[walk away from it|it is not here]]
You patted it. Even if your parents said there’s no such thing as a dragon, you saw it.
You washed your face and hands and went down to [[breakfast |breakfast]].But you didn’t pat it. If there’s no such thing as something, it’s silly to pat it on the head.
You washed your face and hands and went down to [[breakfast |breakfast]]. The dragon went along. It was bigger now, almost the size of a dog.You sat down at the table.
The dragon sat down on the table.
This sort of thing was not usually permitted, but there wasn’t much your parents could do about it. They had already said there was no such thing as a dragon.
You decided to
[[get the dragon down off the table|down]]
[[nothing |up]]You saw the dragon, so you decided to get the dragon down off the table. The dragon happily sat with you and waited for [[breakfast|pancake]].If [[there’s no such thing|pancake]], you can’t tell it to get down off the table.
Mother made some pancakes for you, but the dragon ate them all.
Father made some more. But the dragon ate those, too.
Your parents kept making pancakes until their ran out of batter. You only got one of them.
You decided to say to your parents
[["I only got one pancake, because the dragon ate the rest" |get ready with dragon]]
[["I am full and got what I wanted" |get ready]]You went upstairs to brush your teeth. Mother started clearing the table. The dragon, who was quite as big as your mother by this time, made himself comfortable on the hall rug and went to sleep.
By the time You came back downstairs, the dragon
Had grown so much he filled the hall.
You had to go around by way of the [[living room|clean]]to get to where mother was.
“I didn’t know dragons grew so fast!”
“There’s no such thing as a dragon!” Said Mother firmly.Father looked at you and said "Go get ready! And remember there’s no such thing as a dragon!"
You went upstairs to brush your teeth. Mother started clearing the table. The dragon, who was quite as big as her by this time, made himself comfortable on the hall rug and went to sleep.
By the time You came back downstairs, the dragon
Had grown so much he filled the hall.
You had to go around by way of the [[living room|clean]] to get to where mother was. Cleaning the downstairs took Mother all morning, what with the dragon in the way…and having to climb in the out of windows to get from room to room.
By noon the dragon filled the house. Its head hung out the front door, its tail hung out the back door, and there wasn’t a room in the house that didn’t have some part of the dragon in it.
When the dragon awoke from his nap, he was [[hungry|food]]. A bakery truck went by. The smell of fresh bread was more than the dragon could resist. The dragon ran down the street after the bakery truck.
The house went along, of course, like the shell on a snail.
The mailman was just coming up the path with some mail when their house rushed past him and headed down the street.
He [[chased|house]] your house for a few blocks, but he couldn’t catch it.When your grandparents came for visit, the first thing they noticed was that the house was gone.
Luckily, one of the neighbors was able to tell them which way it went.
Your grandparents got in their car and went looking for the house. They studied all the houses as they drove along.
Finally, they saw one that looked familiar. You and your parents were waving from an [[upstairs window]].Your grandparents climbed over the dragon’s head, onto the porch roof, and through the upstairs window.
“How did this happened?” Grandfather asked.
“It was the dragon.”
“There’s no such thing…” Father started to say.
You decided to say:
[[“There IS a dragon!” You insisted. “A very BIG dragon!” And you patted the dragon on the head.|you say it]]
[["There's no such thing as a dragon." You repeated after your parents. And you look at the dragon as you said it|you don't say it]]The dragon wagged its tail happily. Then, even faster than it had grown, the dragon started getting smaller.
Soon it was [[kitten-size]] again.
"What do you see?" Asked grandmother.
"Tell us what you see. " Said grandfather.
"I see a dragon. A very BIG dragon!" You said. And you patted the dragon on the head.
The dragon wagged its tail happily. Then, even faster than it had grown, the dragon started getting smaller.
Soon it was [[kitten-size]] again.
“I don’t mind dragon THIS size.” Said Mother
“Why did it have to grow so BIG?” Asked Father
“I’m not sure,” said you, “but I think it just wanted to be noticed.”
